COGS is the all-University graduate and graduate-professional student governing body. It is composed of one representative and an alternate from each degree granting unit, nine officers, and the graduate student representatives on University committees. COGS’ goals are to: promote the academic, economic and social aims for all graduate students; establish effective communication among these students and the academic/administrative units of the University; and create channels of effective communication with other student organizations. Services for graduate and graduate professional students include:
COGS Copy Service provides self-service copying starting at 4¢ per page. Service includes two-sided copying, color copying, enlargement/reduction 81/2 x 11, 81/2 x 14 and 11 x 17 copies, automatic document feeder and collator. Faxes can also be sent. Cash or check only.
COGS Loan Programs – Interest-free loans of $500 for 60 days are administered through the Office of Financial Aid, 259 Student Services Building. Interest-free loans of $300 for 8 weeks are administered through the ASMSU Business Office, Student Services Building, Room 316.
Legal Aid COGS provides for legal aid through Student Legal Services in 328 Student Services Building. They can be reached at (517) 353-3716 to schedule an appointment.
Event Funding Requests – Graduate groups and organizations are encouraged to apply for funding. Applications and guidelines are available in 120 Chittenden Hall.
Conference Grants – To help defray the costs of traveling to and from conferences, COGS provides up to $300 in the form of a Conference Grant. Applications are available at 120 Chittenden Hall or online at www.cogs.msu.edu. Up to $300 can be awarded once during a graduate lifetime and grants are awarded by lottery.
GSO Support Funding – If you have a departmental graduate student organization (GSO) you can apply for up to $150 to help with meeting costs when you meet to elect your COGS representative.
City of East Lansing Parking Permits – COGS has teamed up with the City of East Lansing to sell reduced cost graduate student permits in the downtown East Lansing Division Street ramp. Cost is $150 per semester (check or money order only) and are activated within minutes of purchase. For more details contact the COGS Office.
Discounted Meal Plans – COGS Discounted Meal Plans for Graduate and Professional Students are available for $7.00 per meal.* This offer is available only once in fall semester and once in spring semester.
Use Meal access to bring friends, family and guests to eat with you at the many dining options available. Enjoy meals like vegan, vegetarian, kosher, halal, gluten-free, nutfree and more! You can even use it for on-the-go dining for takeout in the dining halls 7:00 a.m.-midnights, Monday –Friday.
*Must be purchased in bundles of 10, max 2 bundles per grad student from COGS per semester and used at least once a fiscal year or meals expire.
